How Much Yarn do I Need?

My Suzy the Shepherdess two-ply, medium (worsted) weight yarn skeins are 50 grams, approximately 100 yards.  I knit six stitches per inch with this yarn using #5 needles. 

 

My two-ply fingering weight yarn skeins are 50 grams, approximately 235 yards. I knit nine stitches per inch with this yarn using #1 needles.
 
To determine how much yarn you need for a particular project your best bet is always to check the pattern, but if you don't have your pattern handy, below are some averages for how many skeins you need for some common projects.
